The U.S. Labor Department released its latest jobs report today and it looks like job growth has slowed, which is bad news for the 4.4% of Americans who are currently unemployed. But there is good news too! Burger King is offering some consolation to the out-of-work by offering “Whopper Severance” free burgers to the recently fired. “Getting fired might not be fun, but at Burger King restaurants getting fired like the flame-grilled Whopper sandwich is always a good thing,” the chain said in a release. Burger King said customers who “own [their] fire” by updating their LinkedIn profiles to “publicly confess to getting canned” can register to receive a Whopper Severance package in the mail, which includes a letter and a gift card for free Burger King food. As if the idea of announcing your unemployment status to all your business contacts isn't bad enough, Burger King requires you to use specific language in your public message: “I got fired. I want a free Whopper. #WhopperSeverance.”
The promotion ends today. So, hurry up and get yourself fired so you can enjoy some flame-grilled goodness with a side of humiliation for FREE.
