Disney Is Bringing Back Hocus Pocus (But There’s A Major Catch That’ll Have It Headed To The Disney Vault By Christmas)
Disney Channel is in early stages of development on a Hocus Pocus TV movie, a reimagining of the 1993 cult classic Walt Disney feature, which starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy.
The new take is being written by Scarlett Lacey (The Royals), with David Kirschner, producer on the original movie, on board to executive produce.
The new Hocus Pocus iteration will have a new cast and a new director. (Deadline)
Hold up! They’re making a Hocus Pocus REMAKE instead of a sequel? Disney has literally churned out some of the dumbest sequels to cinematic classics in the history of film. My least favorite being The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea - why the hell would you return Ariel to the sea after the entire plot of the first movie was getting her out of it? Anyway, I don’t understand why Disney wouldn’t want to do a sequel for the one movie that fans actually want a sequel for?
Recently, Disney has been creating live-action remakes of their most beloved animated films including Cinderella and Beauty & The Beast. But what makes these movies different is seeing actual humans play these characters. Hocus Pocus was already a live action film. So basically, Disney is going to take a cinematic masterpiece starring icons Bette Middler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker and turn it into a bargain bin Lifetime movie version of Hocus Pocus that'll be headed to the Disney Vault by Christmas.
