L.A. Superior Court Judge Gregory Keosian is indicating that he will dismiss Richard Simmons’ defamation suit against the National Enquirer and National Enquirer. Simmons sued in May over a stories published in the National Enquirer and National Enquirer claiming he was in the process of becoming a woman. Interestingly, the ruling is a victory of sorts for transgender people as the judge says being misidentified as transgender does not expose someone to “hatred, contempt, ridicule or obloquy” and is therefore not technically defamation. I think "woman" is the nicest thing the National Inquirer could call Richard Simmons.
