Remember that guy who killed his friend after the friend revealed on 'The Jenny Jones Show’ that he had a secret gay crush on him? Well, he is now a free man.
Jonathan Schmitz, aka the "Jenny Jones" killer, was sentenced back in 1999 to 25 to 50 years in prison for the 1995 murder of Scott Amedure.
Schmitz was 24 years old when he appeared as a guest on the never aired episode of Jenny Jones about secret admirers. The admirer ended up being Schmitz's friend, Scott Amedure. Schmitz, who was under the impression that his secret admirer was a female, seemed to laugh it off and even went out for drinks with Amedure and another woman after the show. But days later, Schmitz went to Amedure's home and shot him in the chest.
At trial, the defense blamed The Jenny Jones Show for the murder, saying that Schmitz murdered Amedure because he felt ambushed and humiliated by the show, not because he hated homosexuals. The jury seemed to buy this bullshit as they convicted Schmitz of second degree murder rather than a hate crime.
Now 47, Schmitz has been granted parole and was released from the Parnell Correctional Institution on Tuesday.
