The Orpheum Theater Group has halted screenings of the Academy Award-winning film “Gone With the Wind” after a recent showing left the Memphis theater with a number of comments on the film’s racial insensitivity. The movie had been shown numerous times over the past few years, but the current social climate changed the theater’s mind about subsequent showings. “Gone With the Wind” won 10 Academy Awards in 1940, including Best Picture. Trump is a troll and needs liberal activists to step over the line so he and his ilk can feed on their well intentioned mistakes. Gone With the Wind has racists overtones the same way Tom and Jerry or Bugs Bunny cartoons did. It should be shown and commented on, but not stopped as if the latent racism is crucial to the entertainment value. America is racist sometimes currently. It used to be more racist more often. Let's make it less racist with a teachable moment rather than pretending racism is a long gone ideal.
What do you think? Was the theater correct in its decision to pull the movie or are we just a bunch of snowflakes looking for a safe space? Let me know in the comments below.
