Attorney General Jeff Sessions took a break from singing "Hopelessly Devoted to You" to a reflection of President Trump in a pond to announce that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) is "being rescinded.” The DACA program protects young undocumented immigrants brought to the US as children from being deported. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle had urged the President to continue the program.
Sessions said that as of today the Department of Homeland Security will no longer process any new applications for the DACA program. But they will continue to renew permits for anyone whose status expires in the next six months, which gives Congress a window to get its act together and pass immigration reform. If Congress is unable to do so, 800,000 people will lose their ability to work, go to school, and live without fear of being deported. (CNN)
In America, our economy is dependent on each generation being bigger than the last to pay off the debts of the previous generations. Think of it as a giant pyramid scheme without common sense gun laws and rampant obesity. It should come as no surprise then that rescinding DACA could gravely impact everyone, not just dreamers. If 800,000 people lose their jobs, the U.S. government could lose around $460 billion in revenue over the next decade. That's a lot of tax dollars that we don't have laying around in our couch cushions.
Luckily, the American people elected a "business man" as president and he has a surefire way to recoup these loses - building a boarder wall. If that doesn't make any sense to you, congrats on having a functioning brain stem. King Cheeto plans to boost the economy by building a boarder wall that has ZERO economic benefits and will reportedly cost taxpayers $70 billion to make and $150 million a year to maintain. This would be like quitting your job to get involved in multi-level marketing. And just like all of the leggings, make up, candles, bags and other products my friends are pushing on me, I'm not buying it.
